Gaviscon is a brand of over-the-counter (OTC) medication primarily used to relieve symptoms of heartburn, acid reflux, and indigestion. It is available in various forms, including liquid suspension, chewable tablets, and effervescent tablets. Gaviscon is widely recognized for its effectiveness in providing quick relief from discomfort associated with gastrointestinal issues.

Gaviscon works by creating a foamy barrier on top of the stomach contents, which acts as a physical barrier to prevent stomach acid from splashing up into the esophagus. This barrier is buoyant and “floats” on top of the stomach contents, providing a protective layer that can alleviate symptoms like heartburn and acid reflux.
