A lever arch file typically has a rectangular-shaped outer cover made of sturdy materials like cardboard or plastic. The cover may be covered in a textured or mottled pattern.

One of the most distinctive features of a lever arch file is its spine, which contains a lever mechanism. This lever allows you to open and close the file easily. When you pull the lever upwards, it compresses the file’s contents and holds them in place, making it convenient to add or remove documents.

Inside the file, you’ll find metal rings or prongs, usually two, attached to the spine. These rings are used to secure hole-punched documents, allowing you to open and close them for document organization and retrieval.
